Do you remember the warning? “Be careful what you wish for…”
No one had explained that to me before I made my first wish. But the moment I made the wish I knew that something in the cosmos had shifted. It was as if everything had been waiting to see if I would utter the words, and once I did everything adjusted and a new destiny awaited me.
I was five years old. If I close my eyes I am there again.
My grandfather told amazing stories. Some were funny, some taught a lesson and others were entertaining. Almost every story began with “That reminds me of the time that I…” I loved nothing more than to listen to his stories. Then one day it happened. As I sat listening to his story something began to build inside of me. It came from a place so deep that I did not know it existed. It bubbled up, a feeling that was in search of the words it needed to fully express itself. It was my wish.
“I wish that I will have an interesting life so that one day I will be able to tell great stories like grandpa.”
As soon as I had said it I wondered at what I had done. I knew nothing would ever be the same again.
The first part of my wish has come true. My life has been more than interesting. Now it is time to see if I can fulfil the second part of the wish.
The time has come for me to tell my stories.
Today is the first day of National Novel Writing Month and I have signed up to finish the first 50,000 works on My First, First Draft by November 30th.
I hope you will follow along on my journey to become a published author.
