I like short stories, but then I have always like the bad boy. Honestly, I think there is much to commend the short story, especially in our current time of short attention spans, limited time and busy schedules. Perhaps we shall see the format grow.
What form do you prefer?

i like short stories and novels just depends on the time I have, I basically will read everything and anything..LOL!! but for writing, I would chose the short story, it’s an opportunity to present singular ideas or themes, and you are right in this hyper busy world we tend to lose focus and millenials are looking for quick reads that offer quality material and subjects.

Agreed. The problem I have with reading novels is that I want to sit and read them cover to cover in one sitting. I don’t have huge blocks of time like that just now. Enter the short story. š

I make an effort to read one novel a week, some are easier than others and I get so frustrated with a book that is highly recommended but falls short. I have been stating away from book prize lists etc and seeking out new authors, and I read in every spare moment, but yes I do not have a lot of time in a block just like you. Working 10 full hour days leaves me very exhausted and not in the mood for reading sometimes but I push on. Short stories have a lot of merit, they are just very underrated.

You are doing great if you can get in a novel every week. I haven’t reached that yet. Something to aspire to.š

Iād much rather settle into a novel than dash through a short story. For a quick read I visit WordPress.
