One reason I have concentrated on Flash fiction and short stories is to practice my writing. When I attempt to write a story in 100 words, there is no room for fluff. The writing must be concise and each word I choose is carefully considered. I often spend an inordinate amount of time editing in comparison to the initial writing. Now I am not claiming anything I write is all that great, but I do believe it is improving.
How do you ensure your writing improves?

i read and try to write out of my comfort zone. i think being part of a very intellectual book club has really helped me too. they are not writers but educators, linguistic professors, economists etc who add to my knowledge, this has been very enriching.

Sounds like you have found a great group. I have been looking for a critique group to join.

there is a critique group here that I can join but I find them a little too self absorbed to be of real help, i hope you find one that suits your needs

Your writing is captivating. I just write, as often as possible, and don’t worry much about drastic improvement. It just comes.

Aw! Thank you for the kind words. I am a bit of a perfectionist so I am always analyzing and critiquing and pushing myself to convey thoughts in a better more succinct way.π
