Someone recently asked me where I get my story ideas. Truth is, I don’t know. I sometimes fall asleep thinking “I need an idea”. That’s it. I wake with an idea or an entire story in my mind. The trick is to capture them, write them down before they fade from existence. There are magic idea elves working overtime to plop those little gems in my head.
How do you get your ideas?

Inspiration comes from so many places. I love hearing what inspires others. Some of the things I write, it had no idea I wanted to explore. 😊

it is odd what can inspire, i think about vision and hearing impaired writes, how are they are they inspired? other senses heightened or inspired by their own mindfulness

Funny you say that. When I wrote Traces I wrote it with my eyes closed. (the editing was wild).

I had a keyboarding class in school that taught it. It is more useful than you might think. My biggest issue is I go so fast that I transpose keys between the right and left hand. So “hand” may be typed as “hadn”.

Yes 😊 With all the typing you do it wouldn’t be too difficult. Just use a tea towel to cover your hands. If you are using a qwerty keyboard there might be bumps on “F” and “J” keys to get your fingers home. Give it a try.

I pressed send too quick. wanted to add that when I read I always want to feel the story, poem etc, some have a deeper meaning, some are just as they are. maybe I caught some of that.

I have never had a problem finding ideas, but I do run into issues with too many ideas clogging up the works! I have to flush them out by writing them into a journal. Then at least I’ve freed them and I don’t worry about losing them once I’ve let them go.

Yes ideas are like a flowing river. But even when I get the ideas noted. some of them are very persistent about more stage time. 😊

I’m grateful to Gina for sharing your words on her blog, because I am loving your daily quotes!
As for ideas, they come from anything and everything, and they tend to come more as I write. It’s like that Maya Angelou quote, “…When I’m writing, I write. And then it’s as if the muse is convinced that I’m serious and says, ‘Okay. Okay. I’ll come.” 🙂

I am so happy you are enjoying the quotes, and so grateful to Gina for sharing them with you.
Like you when I write the ideas flow so quickly I sometimes have difficulty keeping up with them. 😊

There are few things worse for me than losing an idea or idea for a story. It drives me crazy.lol I get my inspiration from a random, fleeting, thought, or sometimes by reading the writings of others, or from listening to music. I love it when I get inspiration to write a piece about something I’ve never experienced. It challenges me to step inside of the story, feel what my characters might be feeling. I guess it’s one of my favorite things about writing.

Don’t you just hate that? Its as bad as misplacing your keys. Writing does allows us to explore different Identities without all the side effects.

Haha, well put. I agree with you.

That quote is so true! It is hard to explain. Sometimes I have no clue where my ideas come from! A lot of times though they are based on just every day experiences and conversations. One little thing that happened or a word said will stick in my head and it leads to a story.
I also like to browse through paintings on Pinterest and one will jump out at me and I will think of a story to go with it.

I agree. I am flooded with ideas. Stories jump into my head and demand to be told. Thanks for reading and commenting. 😊
