Daily Quote

Quote- Eric-Jerome-Dickey

Someone recently asked me where I get my story ideas. Truth is, I don’t know. I sometimes fall asleep thinking “I need an idea”. That’s it. I wake with an idea or an entire story in my mind. The trick is to capture them, write them down before they fade from existence. There are magic idea elves working overtime to plop those little gems in my head.

How do you get your ideas?

  1. I have never had a problem finding ideas, but I do run into issues with too many ideas clogging up the works! I have to flush them out by writing them into a journal. Then at least I’ve freed them and I don’t worry about losing them once I’ve let them go.

  2. I’m grateful to Gina for sharing your words on her blog, because I am loving your daily quotes!

As for ideas, they come from anything and everything, and they tend to come more as I write. It’s like that Maya Angelou quote, “…When I’m writing, I write. And then it’s as if the muse is convinced that I’m serious and says, ‘Okay. Okay. I’ll come.” 🙂

  3. There are few things worse for me than losing an idea or idea for a story. It drives me crazy.lol I get my inspiration from a random, fleeting, thought, or sometimes by reading the writings of others, or from listening to music. I love it when I get inspiration to write a piece about something I’ve never experienced. It challenges me to step inside of the story, feel what my characters might be feeling. I guess it’s one of my favorite things about writing.

  4. That quote is so true! It is hard to explain. Sometimes I have no clue where my ideas come from! A lot of times though they are based on just every day experiences and conversations. One little thing that happened or a word said will stick in my head and it leads to a story.
I also like to browse through paintings on Pinterest and one will jump out at me and I will think of a story to go with it.
