My grandmother was a great proponent of hand washing. It was a refrain often heard emanating from her kitchen. She wanted children to be clean. I object to the idea that writing is something shameful. But there can be an air of contempt and disbelief when you reveal you are a writer. I admit I am cautious when I first divulge my propensity for writing.
How do you present your writing? Do you proclaim it from the mountaintops, or hide a dirty little secret?

You know, its funny. I never considered myself a writer. I’ve been blogging for over two years now and it just hit me, I am a writer. I don’t talk about my writing too often but if asked what my hobbies are I include it. Thought provoking daily quote. ❤

I agree with Marie, I can’t see myself as a writer, but people say I am, maybe it’s getting comfortable in this new skin.

Truth is I have the same issue. It is the reason for my blog name – a sort of daily affirmation. 😉

I have been a writer for many years but my writing has always been technical writing rigidly restraind by the facts and concicely getting the information conveyed to the reader where the reader can not infer duplicity in the writing. Just recently my daughter inspired me to start writing FICTION. Although most of the tenents of technical writing still apply I find complete freedom in writing anything I darn well please and the quote has justified my thoughts on writing even though some readers may take extreme offense to what I have written. The vast majority of those readers I will never meet. So in the unspoken words of the quote: “Who the hell cares.” I really have to wonder at my daughter’s response to my statement.

It is great that you are able to take your technical writing skill and apply them to fiction. Write what makes you happy. There are readers who will connect with your words. I am sure your daughter is thrilled that you are trying something new. 😊
