Title: Dale’s Diner

Word count: 100 words
The hurricane was brutal. It swept through town leaving destruction in its wake. The roof was ripped from Dale’s Diner, but the structure remained intact. Dale was a veteran hurricane ridder and had learned his lessons. His restaurant equipment was portable, and Dale had trucked it inland with the generators ahead of the storm. His seasoned crew trickled in when the storm passed. They bailed water, disinfected and unloaded equipment and food when the trucks returned. Within hours, Dale’s Diner was up and running. Getting hot food to the town’s people and relief workers was the key to their recovery.

Timely piece, and reminds me of those establishments that managed to stay open through the recent Florence storms. A nice little tribute.

Another nice version based on Florence. Yours is a bit more altruistic. While I was willing to sit and drink the storm away, your character went back to help others. Well done. 🙂

I had an idea of the brollies being some sort of temporary roof too at first. Dale’s a resourceful type, something I’m sure the townspeople and relief workers are glad of!

I admire the grit of those who live in storm ravaged areas and rebuild time afer time. Not only is this restuarant owner doing the right thing, it’s something people will remember and continue to be loyal customers when the weather is fair.

A very nice tribute to places like Dales Diner who came to the aide of their neighbors during and after Florence. Nicely written story! =)

If you’d made Dale a woman, this would have been perfect! 😉
And, a mere two hours from my home, in the Ottawa, Ontario, and Gatineau, Quebec, regions, we were hit with horrible tornados that did rip off the roofs of several buildings. So reading this was – whoa! I have friends and family in those areas who were hit but thankfully not as bad as they could have been.

Well I couldn’t be too obvious. 😉
Tornadoes are so unpredictable and very scary. I have seen buildings leveled and next door no damage at all. I am very happy that your friends and family got by with minimal damage. I am wishing them all the best. ❤

That’s a very American story.
A resourceful man knows that a disaster is likely, prepares to meet it by doing the thing he does best, and then, when the disaster strikes, he works his butt off for the good of his neighbours.
And very well told too!

A great story which reminded me of the make do spirit in Britain your WW2, many shops damaged by bombs, just boarded the windows and carried on.

It always warms my heart to see good folks helping their neighbors in their hours of need. That being said, I’m glad I live in the west and don’t have to worry about hurricanes. Great story!

It was a great take on the prompt, of course I liked it. Also in the west we have earthquakes and volcanoes but for the most part they are pretty localized (unless Yellowstone blows haha). I think the most tragic disasters are the ones that affect so many people in a large area. I hope people get the help they need sooner rather than later!

If Yellowstone blows we are all in trouble. 😉 Tragedy and disaster comes in all shapes and sizes. I too hope help arrives as quickly as possible so things can get back to normal… whatever that is. 😊
