Lizzy trembled and checked her phone. The address was correct. The house was a huge Romanesque Greystone Mansion, the kind they built after the Great Chicago Fire. She didn’t dare hope, but she breathed deeply and proceeded through the wrought-iron gate, and up the steps.
A thin woman wearing magazine styled grey hair and clothes to match answered the door.
“You’re Lizzy,” she stated more than asked and extended her hand. “I’m Rose. The apartment entrance is on the side. Follow me.”
They walked along the side of the house and around the corner where Lizzy stopped and gasped.
“It’s not large, a thousand square feet, living room, and kitchen downstairs, bedroom and bath upstairs. Security deposit is twelve hundred, rent is twelve hundred. Security and first month’s rent is payable at lease signing.” Rose said unlocking the door.
“I’ll take it,” Lizzy blurted.
“Well, welcome home, Lizzy.” Rose laughed and swung the door wide.

Lucky Lizzy, thats probably as big as my whole house although I don’t have a calculator so I couldn’t be sure, there’s 4 of us and a dog!

Yes indeed. I didn’t have room to mention there is only street parking and that can be a challenge on a snowy winter. Still not a bad price to pay for such a wonderful apartment. Glad you liked the story. 😊

those two names create a different sort of story in my head. I have been watching too many scary movies lately maybe, but a story so neat as this could not be so simple?!

The biggest twist in this story was that there was no twist. I kept waiting for something menacing to happen 🙂

That would be a sweet deal. I would never of thought about it being an apartment building. Shows how my rural frame informs my story scope.

A lot of mansions have guest houses, or apartments for the help that the owners now rent out.

I have lived in a 3 bed that was just over 1000 sqft and a 1 bed apartment about the same size. Lizzy is very lucky. Thanks for the compliment. 😊
