Title: Was Blind
Source: Friday Fictioneers sponsored by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields-Addicted to Purple
Word count: 100 words
Rosie lived inside a Wall she couldn’t see until the stranger sat in her booth.
“How do you do it?” he asked.
“Do what?” Rosie tucked the pencil behind her ear and stuffed the order pad in her pocket.
“Live with the Wall,” he said, as he turned to look outside. “Aren’t you claustrophobic?”
Rosie followed his gaze.
“Coffee?” he prodded.
She remembered nothing else about him. The Wall followed her now, lurking outside windows, looming over buildings, creeping forward to clutch her throat with knobby fingers.
Rosie planned, engineered her freedom, fearing what would happen if she didn’t escape.

Some walls we build ourselves without even realising they are there. Nice story.

If he would never have referred to it, she might never have noticed it.

So true. It is amazing what others see and what we cannot. Thanks for reading and commenting Larry. 😊

Oh man, I can definitely tell by Rosie spacing out that her world was just shattered. Just goes to show how easy it is to normalize things in our lives. Great story man!

only after he mentioned it’s existence did it start to bother her. I like a story that has depth this way. and the mention of a stranger sort of hints at a mystical encounter.

Hmm, I hadn’t considered him as a mystical component. Glad you liked the story, Gina. 😊

It sounds like that stranger really screwed her up, though he may have done her a favour in the long run.

I am hoping that he woke her up to her reality. Thanks for reading Draliman. 😊

Leads me to question whether the wall is real or metaphorical. Excellent writing. Leaves me wanting to see if she actually did escape.

Dear Jo,
We often are prisoners of our own design, aren’t we? I sense this is the case with Rosie. Hope she can spread her wings and escape. Nicely done.

Yes and sometimes the prison is almost invisible to us. Thank you for your kind words, Rochelle.

Oh I like the thought of only being bothered by the wall after it’s been pointed out at you…

All she needed was someone to point it out to her… now, will she be more or less miserable?

There is the rub Dale. Was she happy before and if so would she have remained so, or eventually become miserable as the truth slowly dawned on her? Would the realization come too late to change anything? Thanks for reading. 😊

Could the wall she created, protecting/encroaching on her, cause her mind to create a man who was so easily disregarded? A waking dream? really interesting piece.

An intriguing story. We all live with some self-delusion and unless someone points it out, we never notice. Very clever!

Thanks Brenda. It is amazing how we disguise the truth. Glad you liked it.

Sometimes it just takes a word or phrase to turn your long-held beliefs upside down. I think she is better off knowing the truth. That gives her a chance at coping. It now is her choice whether she stays behind the wall or leaves.

I am sure you are correct. Decisions made from truth will probably prove to be more valuable in then long term. Glad you liked the story.
