Title: The Tiburtine

Something wasn’t right. The feeling gestated in the pit of my stomach, seeking form, yet defying description.
Sitting in Sibyl’s vacant apartment did little to settle me. On the coffee table sat a mason jar filled with brightly colored and folded slips of paper. Countless time I had tried to open it, to no avail.
The door slammed, and I jumped as Sibyl appeared. She easily opened the jar and deposited two slips of folded paper before replacing the lid.
“Have you figured it out?” she asked.
The truth hit me.
“You record the words of the gods.”
Sibyl smiled.

Thanks, Neil. This prompt did not reveal its secrets right away. Those fickle gods. ✨😉✨

A simple story that has deeper meaning. Folded pieces of paper are intruiging to the curious. To others it’s just decoration.

I can’t imagine decorating with items devoid of meaning, though I know people do. I like things that hold meaning or spark a story. 😊

But I don’t wanna be converted. Keep your god notes, Syb.

Thank you Keith. Dealing with the gods is often unpleasant. 😉

This story really drew me in. Now I’m wondering what the gods have to say – sort of.

Thank you for your kind words Alicia. I think I am staying clear of the gods for a while. 😉

I’m really curious about the slips of paper now. I feel like Brad Pitt in Se7en.
WHAT’S IN THE JAR?!
Haha. Seriously though, this is a really good hook you could totally write more and have us all along for the ride.

I love the way the scene was set in this piece. It drew me in . And why was he(?) trying to figure it(?) out? Intriguing. And was she just jesting ??

Great take and I see now why he couldn’t open the jar. Very imaginative

That’s a wonderful take. I loved how she could so easily open the lid and put the ‘words of jar’.. while he struggled.
