Title: Go Bag, Go

Word count: 100 words
Maria swung her grocery bag, humming a tune as she hurried home. Turning the last corner, she halted, the grocery bag bumping her leg.
Parked in the space by her door, was Carlo’s scooter. Like old times, her heart raced, and bile chocked her throat. Panicking, she scanned the courtyard and glanced at her upstairs window. Senses alert, she turned and ran.
“Oh god. Did he see me?” she wondered as she ran.
People stared, and she slowed her pace.
“Think, Maria. You have a plan.”
She retrieved the key from her purse.
“Train station. Left luggage locker. Destination unknown.”

It’s too bad she has to do something that drastic. Maybe soon he’ll get his comeuppance

She’s very smart to have a plan and resources already set up.

Great thriller, Jo! So much back-story, and a story arc that goes well beyond the text. I’d enjoy reading a longer version of this.

Thank you Penny. Yes I can imagine a long road traveled to bring her to this place. I think I will add it to the list. 😊

There could be many reasons why she has to run, it’s a tough life constantly looking over your shoulder.

So true, Iain, I am constantly amazed at the story possibilities generated from Rochelle’s prompts.

An escape fund! My friend had one of those in a wardrobe in his home somewhere I think. Think he went to the Costa del Sol for a week!

Having a Go Bag is never a bad idea. Hmm, I might have to put one together. Glad you enjoyed the story.

Scary. Good job Carlo left his scooter where she could see it.

Why is Maria so afraid of Carlo?

Pretty serious problem solving I think. Maybe Carlo’s more than just an ex-flame.

May Carlo sit there and rot; may Maria succeed in finding a free and happy life.

LOL I think Carlo will get what he deserves, in the end. Thanks for reading and commenting my friend. ✨😄✨

I like the skillful way you shifted the mood from her carefree situation, with the little detail about the shopping bag bumping her leg, to the urgency at the end. Poor Maria to have her tranquility spoiled like that – but you’ve set her up as a survivor so that’s good.

Its interesting to ponder what their previous relationship was, so that she absolutely must escape before he sees her. My money’s on domestic abuse. But maybe she owes him money, or he is there to blackmail her with some embarrassing truth. Intriguing!

There are any number of possibilities, as you say. I have this one on my list to expand into something longer. I am glad you liked it. ✨💕✨
