Francois walked the rocky seashore daily. Passing the lighthouse, he hoped to spy the keeper. The old man was reclusive, reluctant to make new friends. Undaunted, Francois waved whenever he saw him.
Today he stood, surveying the misty gray horizon. Francois waved and smiled with delight when the old man laid his finger to the rim of his hat.

First, I like this poem a lot. Second, I really don’t understand challenges that given an exact word count. Is it to give you practice finding more efficient ways make your point? I feel like it ultimately impacts the writing. I could see if the challenge was 55-60 words.

I am glad you liked the story Jeff. Personally, I enjoy a challenge, and attempting to tell a story within prescribed guidelines. Yes, it does force concise writing, but it also demands a concise story. No sweeping epics will be conveyed in fewer than 100 words. So both story and words have to be tailored to the constraints. Some challenges allow a range. The important thing is to use what works for you. 😊

I’m sure he appreciated her waves even if he didn’t always show it. Delightful.

I did! And I imagine Francois was just as pleased as Frances (hmmm, subliminal…) was in the movie!

Oh my. I haven’t seen that movie in years. I picked the name Francois since the photo said it was somewhere in France. Never even (consciously) thought about the film.
