They say 80% of Americans want to write a book. Few embark on the arduous journey and fewer reach their target. The odds are stacked against aspiring authors. Stepping onto the path is perilous, unknown dangers lurk and abandoning the road sometimes feels like a viable option.

The prize lies ahead, not next to the trail and not in the rearview mirror. Our compelling motivation fuels our ambition to reach the destination and attain our goal. If the purpose is important, if it emanates from the core of our being, if it is as vital as the air we breathe, it propels us forward, sustain us on our journey. With a fierce desire, the path is less daunting. The bumps are minor inconveniences and we will win our reward.

Is your reason strong enough?

  1. Never heard that about the 80% – but I think it sounds right – or is even higher.
and have you ever heard how they say everyone has at least one good book in them?
However, not everyone has the gift of writing in the way it takes to write a “hearty” book and I think too many people don’t get their book done because they do not know how to find the right partner or help. For example, one of favorite health books lately is Lorraine Bracco’s (2015) To the Fullest. And right on the cover we see with Lisa V. Davis.
Bracco gives us her second book and found the help she needed to make it happen. In contrast, authors like you have the gifts and the fervor to “get it” and I just wanted to share that….
to your encouraging words here – sometimes people have more than bumps – but they can still perhaps find a way – eh?

    • The stat is from a few years ago, but given the relative ease of self publishing that number may be increasing. Yes I have heard the “everyone has a book in them” adage, and you are correct not everyone has the means for telling their story. I think that is why we have biographers and ghost writers. 😉 It is a way to get it done.

Thank you for your words of encouragement, Prior. Life has delivered a very big bump for me to deal with, but I have come to realized how important writing is. And well as they say “We ain’t getting any younger.” 😉 So I just have to get it done and I hope the daily quotes help others as well. Thank you my friend.

  2. Good point, “is our reason strong enough.” I think people write for different reasons, get rich quickly is probably one of them. The journey is long, because finding an agent is just as hard as writing the book, so a lot of effort goes into becoming published. So, we have to decide how much effort we really want to put into getting published.
