What images does the word discipline conjure in your mind?
Did you picture arduous work, late nights at the office with the daily grind required to reach your goals eliminating fun from your life? They say success’ biggest enemy is the path of least resistance. They say you must choose what is hard and necessary, forsaking what is fun and easy.
But does it really need to be that way? What if discipline was as natural as breathing? The key is in determining your core values. What are your important and non-negotiable principals? Are your goals aligned with your beliefs? Chances are if they are not in alignment you will struggle on the journey. Life is an adventure which we are supposed to enjoy. After all, reaching a goal is a fleeting moment compared to the time we invest in getting there.
How will you find fun in discipline?

Yes you got it. But I think we need to make sure there is fun added into the equation.

Yes! The point of self discipline is to live and enjoy more, not less.

Thanks, Mike. I feel like having fun is too often dismissed in the pursuit of success.

I cannot really separate the word “discipline” from my military experience. I think what keeps me “hard-working” and “on task” is dreaming of the future, of future success. Having a goal or destination in mind helps keep you motivated.

I totally understand.
I feel like the idea of discipline has picked a negative connotation. Discipline is freeing. It is a joy and a dependable tool I rely on to make my goals and dreams a reality. 👍

I don’t mean it necessarily has a negative connotation, just that military discipline is less about being proactive and more about responding to the immediate situation promptly and rightly.
