Thirty years ago, Blaze fled to Alaska. The country promised shelter from the rat race in its desolate, raw, and expansive wilderness. Old-timers railed against encroaching civilization and forced curious tourist home. Undeterred, Blaze was desperate and without options.

He would never forget the day he met Kaskae.  Saying nothing, their souls remembered the ancient bond, and he knew it set his fate.

Kaskae trained him to be a bush pilot and humanity’s lifeline. At first, it had been easy, but a tiny drip became a deluge. The unfortunate reeked of madness, and despair for which Blaze had no cure.

  1. I hope that it is not time for him to move on again, instead he might try restricting the life flow in the life line. Making more time for Kaskae and himself.

  2. I see your story as a great pendulum swinging to its furthest point. It is there that the storyline changes. Excellent writing. You make me want to know what happens next in his world.

  3. A good story with great descriptions of emotion, Jo. It gets increasingly had to live in difficult places as you age. My dad was reaching that stage before he passed on. You had to be able to drive where he lived. I never want to live that far from civilization. Well done. 🙂 — Suzanne

  4. Blaze was a lucky man to find a cure for his own desperation. You’ve written an interesting story of change, both in individuals and in society. I was intrigued by the way he and Kaskoe recognised the ancient bond; you suggest a permanence beyond the changes of this world, a permanence that can be accessed by those willing to listen and follow their calling.
