Why do we wait? What makes us hesitate when every fiber of our being screams for us to seize our dreams? Do we want to grieve time lost and ask ourselves “what if”? What if we dared, acted courageously, ignored fear and naysayers who undermined our enthusiasm? We can’t afford to accept other’s opinions and discount our belief in ourselves. We have today with no guarantees for tomorrow, next week, or years from now. Why should we compromise, settling for a path which forsakes our true vision?
We are creatures of habit, and we love predictability, structure, and routine. It can be difficult, and stressful but continuing along a route that does not honor our inherent integrity creates deep-seated anxiety. Personal transformations require conscious intention, trust in the reason and purpose for the alteration, and a viable reward for enduring the struggle. But change can also be a positive force. Transformation exhilarates us, producing dramatic shifts and relieving stress as we move toward creating a life that reflects our inner truth.

Another great question. I wish everyone were told all the time, Go for your dreams. And add Now. And add We’ll support you–really. It would be good to go beyond commencement speakers and their speaking. We should be encouraged on un-special days and in tired, even messed-up moments.
Not that this would solve everything. But I’ve lived through being told to get a job I won’t like though it at least would pay and also the occasional, formal message about going for dreams. The first assertion I heard more often than the second. So maybe we reverse these. Go for your dreams and, if you need to on your way, take a job you will not like but will keep you going, materially.

Creating a life you dream of and keeping basic needs met is often a high wire act. Like you I hear the “get a good job” advise far too often. It has a hollow ring.
We do need to encourage each other, every single day to never let go of what makes us unique and special. One small step everyday is so powerful, and so easily discounted. Keep moving toward your dreams my friend. It will make the world a better place.
