Harness Your Wild Imagination- Daily Quote

you-were-once-wild-here.-dont-let-them-tame-you.-isadora-duncan

As a dancer, Isadora Duncan rejected the structured positions and rigid forms of ballet. She improvised, focusing on letting her emotions dictate her movements. She allowed her gestures to flow from one to the next. Dancing was a natural response to music. Aleister Crowley wrote that she displayed an “‘unconsciousness’ — which is magical consciousness — with which she suits the action to the melody.”

We can apply the description to writing. Sometimes the words tumble and appear on the page. They evolve freely. Abstract thought becomes a general idea and finishes as flowing prose. To reach that state, the writer has to let go.  Released from regulations and rules they give the unconscious mind room to run free. The author breaks constraining bonds and creates an uninhibited natural work of art.

How do you connect to your wild nature?

Nina cringed. The other girls wrinkled their noses. No one played Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

Hands on her hips, Candace shook her head. “This is a lame ass game,” she said.

Candace’s mother stood a few feet away and heard every word. Faster than lightning, she grabbed Candace’s elbow jerking her aside. Candace yelped.

“You will not be disrespectful,” she spat as she dragged her off for a private lecture.

Blindfolded, Nina stuck the paper tail to the wall. The woman in the wheelchair clapped her hands and squealed. Nina smiled and went to kiss her grandmother’s cheek.

The Never-Ending Fight for Balance – Daily Quote

the-challenge-in-my-life-really-is-keeping-the-balance-between-feeling-creatively-energized-and-fulfilled-without-feeling-overwhelmed-and-like-im-in-the-middle-of-a-battlefield.-amanda-

They tell us success requires a laser-like focus on a single goal. Then they suggest we create a work-life balance. They say it is necessary to spend equal time on our finances, personal growth, health, career, family, relationships, social activity, spirituality, creativity, attitude, and amusement. The demands are overwhelming and the wheel of life bumps over us imitating the proverbial bus.

The creatives among us are perhaps more sensitive to the underlying need for harmony. We wrestle with the tension, channeling it into our creations. The stress creates conflict, which we try to harness and incorporate into our work. If we are successful, we convey those feelings to our readers. It allows us to form a connection and tell a story that resonates.

How do you maintain balance in your life?

Is Your Busy Day a Waste of Time? – Daily Quote

did-you-know-theres-a-difference-between-being-busy-and-being-fruitful_-did-you-ever-stop-to-think-that-just-being-busy-running-around-in-circles-all-day-but-not-accomplishing-anything

I detest having to deal with trivial tasks that rarely move me closer to my goals. I ignore, delegate or pay to keep them to a minimum. Still, there are certain obligations which require my attention. I try to accomplish them in the most efficient and least disruptive manner. I have found that grouping these repugnant duties together and dispatching them all at once makes them less obnoxious. Every few weeks I schedule a busy-ness day.

On the appointed day, I create a game to complete as many as possible. I map my route, and with my agenda in my hand, I stand at the starting line. The starter’s gun fires and the race begins. I dash around town, while the clock measures my efficiency and I cross items from my list. Time expires, and I collapse with exhaustion and a touch of satisfaction. Tomorrow I can return to more productive and fruitful work.

How do you ensure your busy day bears fruit?

The Cost of Staying True to Your Dreams – Daily Quote

stay-true-to-yourself-yet-always-be-open-to-learn.-work-hard-and-never-give-up-on-your-dreams-even-when-nobody-else-believes-they-can-come-true-but-you.-these-are-not-cliches-but-real-to

The start of another week and an opportunity to recommit to your path. It is human nature to stray, falter and fall. It is easy to listen to the naysayers, who spread doubts and question your sanity. They laugh, saying you will never reach your dreams, and they encourage you to abandon your plans, pulling you to their level. They want to discourage you because your victories highlight their failures.

The closer you move toward your success the more insistent they become. As hard as it may be, following your true direction could mean your friendship is at an end. If you are open, you will discover new friends on a similar journey. Perhaps they will share your dream, urge you forward and rejoice when you succeed.

How do you stay on your path?

Restoring a Giant – Flash Fiction Challenge

Title: Restoring a Giant
Source:  Flash Fiction Challenge
Prompt: Write a story that goes in search of trees.
Word count:  99 words

The forest of Laurel’s childhood was gone. She remembered great stands of the mighty American Chestnut tree, which grew nearly one hundred feet tall with trunks ten feet in diameter. It was once the most common hardwood tree in the Northeastern United States. The tree’s wood was rot-resistant, straight-grained, and it produced nuts that fed cattle, hogs and other wildlife. Laurel remembered eating roasted chestnuts every fall.

A tree that had survived for 40 million years, disappeared in 40, destroyed by the chestnut blight. Her children worked to restore a forest they had never seen and could only imagine.
