Rachel worked hard for twenty years, she had something to prove.

She earned all the distinctions, M.D., Valedictorian, Summa cum laude and a residency at a prestigious hospital.

The debt she amassed guaranteed she would work hard for another twenty years to earn her freedom.

The band was smokin the crowd was rockin out; the night was amazing.

Ax brought it down for the final song, singing the one they loved to hate.

Even dudes wiped away tears as the last strains floated into the night.

You are the best of all, my little trout, the kind that awakens my hunger and makes me shout for more.

I love you smoked, fried, roasted, poached, grilled with lemon and dill and better sill as Trout Almandine or even Trout Pate.

My little trout I love you so many ways, you simply make my day.

She wore a beaded gown by Paul Poiret, a diamond and pearl necklace and carried a bouquet of imported white lilies when she stepped into the yellow Rolls Royce.

Frances had meticulously overseen every detail to guarantee her party was nothing less than perfection.

Jay Gatsby’s parties would appear positively modest in comparison.

The big rig bumped and rumbled west along the highway, catapulting Chuck and his precious cargo west towards the setting sun.

He made this run three times a week, every week, hundreds of times a year, but he had never pushed his rig this hard, this fast, this desperately.

The skeletal old man, clothed only in rags, labored with each breath he took and Chuck swore he would not fail him.

“Hey, look over there. Do you see those women staring at us? What do you think is going on?”

Maxine chewed on a blade a grass and blinked once or twice considering her answer.

“Well, it’s after Easter, so they can’t be looking to eat us. I bet they are weavers and they are wondering how difficult its going to be to get the paint out of our fleece so they can spin it and dye it and make a pretty blanket for their grandbaby.”

Chelsea flipped through the emails downloading on her phone and clicked on one that made her blood run cold.

“Sinkhole Devours 3200 Block of Devon”, the address of the new condo she had just closed on.

She opened the email to view the attached photo and then emailed Josh, her photo-shopping, smart-ass brother.

Switched on, the motors whirled, their gentle humming masking the truth of the mission.

Launched into flight, today’s Valkyrie hummed the battle cry, calling her seven sisters to her side.

Today they chose the slain, Odin’s own, to enter the hallowed hall.

In the old days, we trusted the boucherie, steeped in tradition, cuts made to order.

Progress, modernity, sterile plastic wrapped offerings stripped of the connection to the animal, to the land, nearly closed the age-old shop.

Now the new resembles the past, trusting in the butcher, connecting us with the animal, the land ensuring tradition, ensuring the highest quality.

Flying always filled her with exhilaration, expectation, the promise of adventure.

Her travels had shown her so much, opened her mind her heart and revealed her destiny.

Today she was leaving the home of her birth to return to the home of her heart.
