Old Ben was a smart fellow. A teacher told me I didn’t have enough life experience to write. Easy problem to fix. I lived. Now the time has come for me to write and I have so many stories to tell.
Do you fall into one camp more than the other?

i have had a very colourful life, I doubt I would have things to write about. and we continue living, so the stories go on. I know of excellent story tellers who don’t write, we can write their stories too.

My grandfather was a great storyteller. He is part of the reason I write. 😊

i hear you on that! my paternal grandfather could spin stories out of thin air. I am actually writing down all of the ones he has told us, its taking sometime but I am getting there. I like reading that you have a close relative that inspires you this way.

I am in the later camp. Having lived and thought, have now stories to tell.

I want to live in both worlds. I have tons of interesting thing that have happened in my life and I have an inner passion to write. If I play my cards right, maybe someday someone will write about me. 😉

I like this issue! I think it’s great to be able to write from personal experience and those have been some of the writings I love most, but to be able to listen/read and let the inspiration come to you is super. It means you can write about anything once you learn about it. They say write what you know and if you read and learn you actually will know about your subject.

Very true. There is a perception that you must have large experiences in order to write well. While it certainly can’t hurt, there are defiant advantages to have real-world references. But there is also much to be said of being well read, and having deep empathy , understanding and knowledge in the area you are writing.
It is that authenticity that shines through the words and touches the reader.
