Writing to the head bangs of Megadeth or a noisy coffee shop is very doable for me. I have also written to the strains of classical music or in total silence.
I donβt find I must have specific conditions to write. It would be a luxury and something that only occurred once in a blue moon which would make my writing much more sporadic. So, I adapt and write when and where I can.
What is your preference, music? Silence? The din of a coffee shop? Something else?
Maybe a little Megadeth?

LOL it is difficult to be nice when you are on a roll and someone starts talking to you. Makes me want to scream “Can’t you see I’m working here?” π

Well usually they are so engrossed in their own thoughts that they donβt see what you are( or trying to) doing. Bless them, they are quite offended if you excuse yourself at this point and say that you are working/ write or thinking!

So true. A good corner can be a solution if you are lucky.

i need solitude but i can get into a place in my head and forget the world exists when I am really inspired. I don’t have to be in a particular place or time.

Oh I love when that happens and the words flow. I hope for that every time I sit down to write. π

it is something we all want but often we are stuck in our own limbo – you always seem so inspired and write on very fascinating and varied topics, I envy your creative mind

I wish I could find the magic portal to take me there whenever I wanted. My head is full of useless facts and I figure they should be put to good use. I don’t find anything I write that inspired, but I am glad you enjoy the end product. π

i wish i could retain facts like that, never useless, you never know when they can be inserted into the right place! i do enjoy what you create, it is so different from what i write but that is the beauty i find reading your writing

As I get older, (I just turned 74) I find that I need peace and quiet to either read, or compose. As Gina said, SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED takes no notice, and her coffee is more important than my upcoming blog-post…. ‘sigh’ π―

I think coffee is an integral part of the writing process as well as keeping SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED happy. Best of luck in finding time in your Fortress of Solitude. π

I am always happy and thankful wherever and whenever of seed of inspiration chooses to blossom into a poem!! They have done research on what makes things fun and who is successful at it. They found the thing that made things fun was something that was able to capture and hold your attention and focus, and those that were the best at it could block out almost anything and everything. An example they gave was a surgeon in a six hour operation who turned around after completion to find ceiling tiles on the floor and he asked, “What happened?”. That’s concentration and focus. My preference if a choice is available is the Backside of the Night (the wee hours from 3 a.m. to sunrise) with a low light and silence! Another strange place of inspiration for me has been on long airplane trips! Weird! I listen to my Muse anytime she chooses to whisper to me!!!

We must remember to be thankful for those unexpected seeds of inspiration.
I can relate to the surgeon, I have had people walk into my office and talk to me for several minutes before I realized they are there. Dragging myself out of my work is like extracting a tooth.
Listen to you muse and if she likes the Backside of the Night I would make sure I was around for when she shows up. Keep on writing my friend.

Glad to see you have experienced that “Total Immersion” too! Yes, I keep a listen out for her whispers!

I like the sound of my husband’s tv in the next room. That means all is well. π

What a reassuring sound. I am sure you write wonderful words in that environment. π
