I had a short conversation with a new friend yesterday. Our discussion centered on the recent loss of a loved one, and their legacy. It got me thinking, as these things do, about my legacy. It is easy to descend the rabbit holes of Netflix, and text messages, and cleaning, or other time-consuming things. As much as we enjoy or feel compelled to participate, they don’t seem epitaph worthy.
Do you want to be a beloved parent, spouse, child, or friend? A gifted artist? An advocate for the needy? A philanthropist? A prolific writer? Legacies don’t show up without work, effort and determination, every single day. What will they write on your tombstone?
What can you do today to take a small step toward your legacy?

Really loved this post! I have given this some thought – the legacy part, not the headstone! There really aren’t too many things that the average person can do that passes on through the ages except – music, writings, architecture, painting, sculpture, inventions. Writers are blessed to be able to leave our words as a legacy. Wonderful post, My Dear!! Bravo!!!

Here was my take on it: Hope you like it

Ha, tombstones are the distillation of the legacy and hopefully will not appear any time in this century. 😉 You are correct in stating that the average person doesn’t have many avenues open to them to create an enduring legacy, I am not sure some even aspire to those goals. Some of us however may just have the ability to rise above average and attain the brass ring.
Loved your poem. and so happy this resonated with you, my friend. 💕💕💕

Yes, I guess it’s those who feel a need to make a mark of some kind. A brass ring?? What? They’ve downgraded from gold to brass??? Ha! So happy you enjoyed the poem!! Yes, this was a really great post!!! I guess keeping this quote in my head has helped – “What have you done today, to make your dreams come true?” I would probably write more and better if I taped it to my bathroom mirror!! LOL!

Well, then, the obvious question is… when are you taping it to your bathroom mirror?
In that regard I have just downloaded a habit app to help with the daily writing ritual. I will let you know how it goes. 😊

This is very good! It’s something we should all think about.
I want my legacy to be my character . Not things I accomplished but was I compassionate and caring. Did I encourage others etc. Did I help make a difference in others lives?

Those are noble characteristics to want to foster and I applaud you. 👏 What a wonderful world it would be if we all focused on improving the lives of others in some small way every day. 😊❤
