Stop Holding Yourself Back, Own Your Desires, Take Daily Actions, and Live Your Dream Life — Daily Quote

A somebody was once a nobody who wanted to and did. John Burroughs

We all start somewhere. We each have 24 hours every day and seven days in the 52 weeks that create an entire year. If you checked in with most of us, you wouldn’t notice much difference from one year to the next. Minor changes, maybe. There is an updated hairstyle and the vacation to the family cabin we visit every summer. That, despite insisting this year, we will learn a new language, change jobs, lose weight and get fit, and start visiting those bucket list locations. Almost everything remains the same.

Except for our one friend. You know who I’m talking about. They backpacked through Vietnam, took up Jiu-jitsu, lost 20 pounds, and they are starting a new position on Monday where they will advance their career further by working with the big-name guru in their field. Yeah, I’m looking at my shoes too and wondering why I’m not as lucky as my friend.

Perhaps the reason I haven’t done those things is that I don’t want them enough. Yikes. Could it be true? Do we imagine it would be “nice” to learn French, or are we determined to do whatever it takes to speak the language like a native Parisian? It is a subtle distinction, but it creates a shift in the underlying mindset and increases your aspirations and your willingness to walk the walk.

Have you always dreamed of being a concert pianist? What is holding you back from your dream? We can’t control outcomes. There is no guarantee you will perform at Carnegie Hall, but taking ownership of your life means you can control the “doing.” Owning your dreams means taking action and aligning your daily, monthly, and yearly activities with your desires. You may fail. It’s a risk, but what have you got to lose? There is no rewind in life – taking risks generates rewards, and unforeseen opportunities materialize when you are willing to accept the worst that might happen.

What do you really want to achieve?

  1. This is interesting. One thing I don’t enjoy about book publishing these days is all the marketing the author is expected to do and it seems that means being on social media constantly. I worked in sales, it was hard work. I’m glad not to be in sales anymore. So, marketing/sales of a book I would publish sounds so exhausting. It has had me come to a FULL STOP. I’ve been thinking about this in the past year…

    • I am having many of those same feelings. When you own your business, all of the responsibilities fall on your shoulders. Since my series is not at that stage yet, I’ve decided to take first things first, write the book and worry about all the marketing/sales stuff later. I know you will find what works for you. 💕🙂💕

      • So, you made me think of something. In the Children’s Book community, if you want to be a full time writer, you won’t make enough money from royalties. THAT is where ALL the “other stuff” comes into play, ie marketing, making money from writing classes, charging for school visits, children’s summer classes… YOU GET THE IDEA, doing ALL of this would give you a good salary to live on, if you don’t want your normal job. I guess if you have two incomes or are retired, THEN the income is less important that what yearly salary you will make. So, GOOD PLAN, work on our stories — let the other stuff sort itself out. Although, more and more, they say Agents want to know you have a website / social media presence. Again, if the story is SO FANTASTIC, then I guess an Agent would not be concerned about the media presence…. JUST KEEP WRITING, let it sort itself out. I think I need a break from the Children’s Writing Community… so many discussions on “if…IF….if.” Takes away from WHY I got started years ago. I think I have lost my happiness/creativity in writing, because of this community. ❤

      • Oh, how I feel everything you said. 💗 I have limited and specific windows of time to work on “writing stuff.” While I don’t discount the importance of websites and SM stuff, or the need to have a marketing plan, etc. the thing that ultimately gets readers, is a book. So, for me, it comes down to opportunity costs. Do I spend my time writing the best book possible during my writing time, or do I work on all the SM/Marketing stuff for a product I don’t yet have? Since I’m writing fantasy, I need to get 100k+ words written, so I am choosing to concentrate my efforts on the writing. I don’t know much about the children’s market, but if the pressure of “you must do this, that, and the other thing” is killing your joy, maybe stepping back for a while is a good idea? You need to do what feels right to you. 💕💗💕

      • THANK YOU, sometimes we need a fellow writing friend to help us rekindle our JOY of writing again. There was one children’s writer that said she was overwhelmed too. I like this, a few years ago she disconnected from the writers groups, moved to France and ended up publishing a beautiful book. I can’t remember which book it was, but I LIKED that she felt like I did. ENOUGH, we need to write with JOY/CREATIVENESS again. Wish you lived closer, we could meet for coffee one day. KEEP on WRITING! THANK YOU, I will disconnect from everything today. I am FEELING so FREE! I live near the Lake, need to go there and fine tune my stories. 🙂

      • You are so welcome, and I’m glad I could help you feel better. You know coffee is not out of the question. Without traffic, at say 2am, I can be in the loop in under an hour. 😄😄😄 I’m happy you have decided to concentrate on your stories. Things will work out like they are meant to, they usually do. 👍

      • Ok, I would welcome getting together for coffee. I know you’ve been busy with work, your home, etc. When you feel the need to get away, let’s get together. I will send you an email… We need to turn this past year of COVID isolation around!
