History fascinates me, especially when it involves something we consider being commonplace. Today in 1943, Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first sitting U.S. President to fly in an airplane. Now, remember that the Wright brother’s first successful flight at Kitty Hawk happened on December 17, 1903. Forty years for flight to reach a stage safe enough for a president. Aviation technology moved slowly by our standards. In the 1950s, plane tickets were still expensive, and air travel was the domain of the wealthy and elite.
It makes me wonder about the speed of technological developments in stories and how quick or slow adoption might affect the storyline.
