A great journey begins with one step. A great writing habit begins with one word. Go!

Embracing What You Love – Daily Quote

i-know-who-i-am-and-i-know-my-story-and-the-things-that-i-talk-about-are-authentic-and-real-and-i-always-say-this_-id-rather-be-hated-for-who-i-am-than-loved-for-who-im-not.-logic

Human beings, by nature, are cautious and judgmental toward people who live, think, act, and behave differently. We decide without thinking. Others are too thin, too heavy, too rich, or too poor, too quiet or way too friendly to be trusted. Judged as too smart, too slow, always right, but never wrong, it is a survival instinct rooted deep in our brains.

It is a reality we cannot change. When we realized each person has their unique perspective. We understand how others might misunderstand us.  Instead of holding a grudge, we learn to accept the facts and move forward with our life. There is a quote by James Blanchard Cisneros: “Once you awaken, you will have no interest in judging those who sleep.”

If we know ourselves, and we are and happy, we need not worry about others. Being “weird” can free us, letting us embrace the person we are. Who knows? We might find someone who loves biscuits and gravy as much as we do.

How will you stay true to who you are?

Balancing Needed Rest vs Laziness – Daily Quote

laziness-is-nothing-more-than-the-habit-of-resting-before-you-get-tired.-jules-renard

It’s the weekend, and I am tired. There’s a difference between being lazy and being tired. We declare we are lazy when we are dead-dog tired. But are we tired from the right business? Are we filling our days with insignificant activity or are we making strides towards reaching our goals?

It is a balancing act. We push too hard to move towards attaining our goals, become a workaholic and find yourselves in peril of burnout. They say we increase productivity when we rest and recharge our batteries. Rest can lead to inertia, a break in our routine can derail our previous efforts. It’s difficult deciding what we need to do. I think I will write two hundred words and take a nap.

How do you decide when to push and when to rest?

A Real Rock Star – Flash Fiction Challenge

Title: A Real Rock Star

Prompt: Write a story about a rock star.
Word count:  99 words

Stars floated above Kye’s head. He couldn’t sleep when the ancients whispered. His gaze shifted from the sky to his sleeping brother. Their sheep rested quietly in the canyon’s safety.

Kye hefted a rock tossing it in his hand before using it to scrape images into the desert varnish coating the granite wall. The scene completed; his fingers rested on the depiction of his world.

The stars spun, eons passed, and the ancient voices grew silent. Kevin hiked into the park, hunting for answers. Placing his hand on the petroglyph he reached through time to touch the creator’s soul.

I Believe, I Believe, I Believe – Daily Quote

believe-in-love.-believe-in-magic.-hell-believe-in-santa-clause.-believe-in-others.-believe-in-yourself.-believe-in-your-dreams.-if-you-dont-who-will_-jon-bon-jovi.

I believe Santa Claus is real, true love exists, people are basically good, and that magic is everywhere around us. I believe Kevin Costner’s “I believe” speech from Bull Durham is a classic movie moment. I believe we are living at an amazing point in history, that dreams are to be nurtured, not dismissed and I believe human beings have not yet realized their full potential.

There are huge benefits to having a strong belief system. It helps you remain positive, dispel negative thoughts and allows you to build an unshakeable self-confidence. A strong sense of self lets criticism feel less personal, less critical and you can consider the merits from an unbiased view.

Being able to separate emotions from facts lets you take calculated risks while realizing failing is part of the process. The ability to access risk makes you open to change, inspires you to act, and makes you more productive. Taking action means you are more likely to win, succeed and achieve your goals. By making your dreams come true you just might inspire others.

What do you believe in?

Plans Interrupted – 100 Word Wednesday

Word count: 100 words

It was too soon. Since the accident, Donna couldn’t handle her own care. But someone had to watch Jason during summer break.

“How can I manage an active six-year-old?” she asked.

The options were slim, and she finally agreed.

It was a rocky start. Desperate, she suggested they visit the park. It was a compromise that became a daily ritual.

“Grandma. Look at me,” Jason yelled as he climbed the fort.

“Can we get ice cream?”

“Why not?”

Jason slid down the slide and ran to his grandmother’s wheelchair.

“I can push you,” he said.

“Best plan I’ve heard today.”

Mission Accomplished – Thursday Threads

Photo by Alex Read on Unsplash

Sun beat on the black asphalt. Dale turned, watching Number 12 roar past him, slamming to a stop in the pit. The driver revved the engine, sending exhaust waffling into the air.

Crackling snapped and popped in Coop’s ear.

“Now?”

Coop shook his head, waving Dale off.

‘Damn, newbie,’ Coop thought. Teaming with Dale wasn’t his choice. Young, untested, and eager to please wasn’t a good combo for this mission. He calculated the chances of completion at seventy-five percent. If he hadn’t needed a warm body for the heavy lifting, he would have insisted on working alone.

Number 12 bounced, tires spinning and squealing as the pit crew dropped it to the pavement. The racecar shimmied while bodies dove over the barrier dragging hoses and equipment with them. A wall of smoke engulfed the area and the car scudded onto the track.

“What’s the deal?” Dale’s voice exploded in Coop’s earphone. Coop did his best to remain calm when he saw Dale rushing toward him.

“We need confirmation,” Coop yelled over the track’s din.

“We’re not getting many more chances,” Dale shouted.

Coop shrugged, heading toward the crew, but the sound of sheering metal, stopped him cold. Hearing an explosion, he swung around to observe a fireball rising from the track. A quick glance at the monitor confirmed what Coop already knew.

He let his gaze scan the chaotic pit area. A helmeted figure in the team’s colors faced Coop, gave him a thumbs-up, then silently disappeared into the crowd.
