This journey to write a short story every day is defiantly a point A to point B exercise. Armed with a list of story ideas and writing prompts, I hope I have enough for thirty days. Several ideas give me the sense they may develop into longer stories. We will see. Now, it is writing time.
Which path are you traveling? The direct route or the scenic one?

Same here. The focus this month is to move from point A to point B.

I prefer the scenic route. All the short stories I’ve read (mostly in school because they aren’t my cup of tea) were too open-ended and didn’t explain things. They left me frustrated because there usually wasn’t a beginning-middle-end.

Ambiguous endings in any format irritate me too. But I agree it seems to be more prevalent in the short story. I try to do my best to wrap things up, neat and tidy. 😊

I would start off with a short story. Novels require a total focus, something that my full-time worker self is not prepared to offer, as yet.

I completely understand. I have a draft that sits because it needs work and that means time. 😉

It is the editing that drives me crazy. I get into analysis paralysis and work grinds to a halt. 😁

yes I can relate to that paralysis! it’s like a time warp kind of feeling.
