Now, when I think of her, I realize we danced on a precipice. The creature’s supple body, her distant eyes conspired to enthrall me. Her siren song consumed me. Blackened daylight seeped into desolate nights. My world did not exist.

The heavenly nightmare breaks, and I wake, yearning for a face I cannot remember.

Utilizing Saturdays for Stress Free Scheduling – Daily Quote

ah-saturday-a-day-of-rest-rest-of-the-laundry-rest-of-the-house-and-rest-of-all-the-other-stuff-i-put-off-on-friday-anonymous

This week has been odd with the holiday folded into the middle. It fractured my routine, leaving some required tasks, unfinished. A missed workday doesn’t mean my to-do list is any shorter. We must pick up the slack somewhere. Enter Saturday, the ultimate flex day, the precious catch-up hours designed to prevent this week’s work from derailing the plan.

Scheduling flex time is a long-standing habit I began while I was in school. Crazy, intense, demanding calendars are my life, but I also like to have fun. A lot of fun. And I hate missing spontaneous events because my agenda owns me.  By giving myself a buffer, I gain flexibility and reduce my stress.

Do you use Saturday as your catch-up day?

The Promise to Return Home – Thursday Threads

Photo by Jacob Dyer on Unsplash

Bria hesitated, her hand resting on the doorframe. She was reluctant to intrude on Holden’s late-night sojourn to the deck. It had started months ago. Bria woke to find him missing and discovered him outside staring at the stars. An occasional event had become a nightly ritual. Bria noticed other changes, his preoccupation, the deepening crease in his forehead, and the sadness in his eyes.

She thought it would pass, that her inquisitive, carefree and loving Holden would return. But as time passed, she grew less certain, fear nibbled at her heart and she knew they needed to talk. Bria gathered her courage and stepped forward, reaching for him she caressed his waist.

“What is wrong with you?” she whispered.

Holden sighed, looped his arm over Bria’s shoulder and drew her to his side.

“I didn’t mean to wake you,” he said as he kissed her hair. “Go back to bed.”

“No, answer me.”

“Home is calling,” he said.

“When?” her voice trembled.

“Three days.”

“I could come with you…”

“You won’t survive the journey. We discussed this, remember,” Holden wrapped his arms around her and crushed her against him.

“But you’ll return,” she repeated the rehearsed lines.

“You will be old, and I will be as I am now. I will love you forever.”

“You will tell me the new stories of Myall.”

“I promise,” Holden said.

Bria closed her eyes, silently pledging to tell Holden of the star child she carried when he honored his vow to return.

Daydreams for Planning Your Success – Daily Quote

i-am-not-lazy-i-am-on-energy-saving-mode.-anonymous

There are advantages to operating on energy saving mode. It forces you to do away with nonessential tasks. Eliminating the distractions running in the background gives you the space to clear your mind. With the noise silenced, your thoughts can wander. You can reflect. There is freedom in letting yourself explore untraveled paths and imagine beauty. You remember the joys of daydreaming.

People considered this practice selfish and a waste of time. But history is full of individuals who lived in their imaginations. Dreamers like Einstein, Newton and the Bronte sisters lead the list. There are studies which suggest a link between positive constructive daydreaming and success. Reflective thinking unlocks alternatives you might not have otherwise contemplate. By allowing ourselves to imagine our future, to consider positive outcomes to various scenarios you visualize and plan for happiness.

Are you using your daydreams to construct your future?

Lottie watched her father methodically shovel forkfuls of biscuits slathered with sausage gravy into his mouth. She never understood how he breathed, chew and swallow without choking on his food.

“Not, hungry?” he gestured towards Lottie’s plate with his loaded fork.

Her nose wrinkled and she tried to ignore the spittle and half-chewed food, as his fork found its mark.

“I’m not going to college,” Lottie blurted.

His face reddened as he choked, coughed and sputtered, swigging water he regained his normal coloring.

“Best eat your breakfast. It’ll be the last meal I’ll pay for.”

“I know,” she said.

Dancing Beneath the Fireworks – Daily Quote

-always-have-the-most-fun-on-the-fourth-of-july.-you-dont-have-to-exchange-any-gifts.-you-just-go-to-the-beach-and-watch-fireworks.-its-always-fun.-james-lafferty

Watching brilliant-colored fireworks explode over the lake followed by booming concussions is a fond memory. It is a real-life example of light traveling faster than sound. I associate firework displays with Fourth of July Parades, windblown picnics, blankets spread across sandy beaches under a dark night sky and waiting. Not the anxious waiting we experience daily. It is something delicious. This is calmness, which provides space for deep breathing and savoring the exquisite anticipation of the coming nighttime show.

This is the reason I look forward to this holiday. There is no frantic rushing around, no expectations to meet or strive to exceed. Rockets bursting in air delight our eyes. The explosions penetrate and shake our souls awake. They make us smile and laugh and remind everyone they are alive. Even the smallest of hometown performances cannot disappoint the gathered crowd. Who could be disappointed by joy?

How will you celebrate your holiday?
